With Burnley pulling out of a permanent deal we should have been trying to get this lad on loan

What is it with the valuation of Liverpool youth players? Ibe, Solanke, Brewster now this lad - all of them going at probably double what might be considered market rate!

There's definitely some kind of cache to signing Liverpool youth players despite the fact that every one they sell is rubbish! Maybe just stick to defenders!

They seem to stagnate. All look good prospects but don’t seem to know how to kick on. You get the impression that everything’s been a bit too easy for them, leaving Liverpool feels like a step down that they can’t get over. It’s like they think after one decent loan, they’ll get into the Liverpool first team, above players who’ve achieved far more than them and often had to deal with their own knock backs.
Our academy doesn’t attract the best technical players but we do seem to instil good attitudes in them, strong mentalities. It doesn’t surprise me that two of the most solid and consistent England players in the Euros came through our academy and had to work hard to reach the top.

12m is fucking obscene for this player at this level.

I'm trying to think of the last Midfielder or striker who has come through their academy. You could technically say Cody, I guess, but you basically have defenders. For years they've been either buying in young talent from abroad or bringing them through and they never seem to make it. Unlike say Chelsea, Man U or Man City.

Curtis Jones

TAA aswell his future is definitely in midfield and not at right back he’ll get the bale treatment

£15m and £60k/week - I may well be proved wrong but personally I think that's extortionate for a player of his ability

He‘s the epitome of overrated JB. Scores the occasional worldy but, barring them, he does very little to influence, well, anything.

Based on the hype I watched him closely when he was at Derby and again when he was at Muff last year and I really don’t get it. He does virtually fuck all apart from the stated “occasional worldy”.

Id Fulham are indeed paying the reported £12m and £50k a week in wages then they have well and truly had their pants pulled down.

I can see why some say hes overhyped, but 7 goals and 11 assists from 37 games sounds decent to me and the type that I'd have wanted us to sign, and at 24 time to improve. Just saying.

I quite like him.
I would have expected him to cost around £8m though, 15 is ridiculous.

Gotta hand it to Liverpool really

They, like any other academy develop some real Pearlers, TAA, Jones. Going back a generation Gerrard and Carragher.

But for those not at that level they get proper premium whack, Solanke, Brewster, Wilson etc

If those 3 came through our academy they’d go to Donny for £250k!!

However to give them respect, they also buy players not quite there and develop them into world class players - Robertson, Mane, Firmino, Henderson, even Salah wasn’t at the level he is now

On the other hand we had 2 of the best defenders at the Euros in Kyle and Harry sold for about £5m between them, more fool us.

Tbf I think if Solanke and Wison came through our academy they would have got more first team action with us than they did at Liverpool.

If Wilson came through here he would probably have seen more first team action and like RND he might be one we’d have a chance of keeping long term. If solanke and Brewster had come through at united we’d have lost them to one of the big six prem sides well before their 16th birthdays. They’re senior careers may have started off very slowly but we’ve never had academy players have anything like the youth careers they have had DCL comes closest but he was a late bloomer compared to Brewster and solanke and only started to hit his stride in his late teens.

We produce late bloomers the ones who are dominant from and early age get pinched and come though at category one academies. Thats why you don’t see 16 or 17 year olds really dominating as first teamers at United. Player we see make it through to getting first team minutes tend to be players who switched positions during their youth careers Maguire/walker thus hiding them from being poached, players in their late teens early 20s or those we’ve picked up and brought on from elsewhere like naughton, Lowton, RND, Brooks, DCL, and rammers

Don't think he's a great player but he takes genuinely world class set pieces. His goal for Derby at BL on Boxing Day 2018 is the best free kick I've seen live

Set piece specialist, pretty useless in open play.

I'd be gutted if we spent that and paid him that much to be honest.

Liverpool on your CV is like having Organic on your tomatoes, double the price.

Got to laugh at our criticism considering we paid twice as much for Brewster.

Anyway WBA have signed Mowatt and Clarke, Fulham have signed Wilson and a keeper and we've signed.......

Plenty of time yet I guess but it would be nice to have some bodies in before the first game....do we have enough centre backs to put anyone on the bench ?
