I do worry that our players have been allowed to set very low standards for themselves, almost brainwashed. Basham came out with similar garbage recently too. The culture at the club clearly isn't what it should be.
 
This sort of guff only goes to reinforce the idea that footballers' IQ < their shoe size.

'Things just didn't work out.' Arse water. So, the team just has to turn up and wait for some magic fairy dust, does it? Only slightly removed from the 'I want to go somewhere I can win trophies' bollocks. Work harder, play better and win one yourself you muppet.

Guys worried about their and their mates contracts not being renewed telling people how good they are and how they deserve contracts.

Fair point. And tbh it's just bland garbage which George has regurgitated without a moment's thought. Newspaper filler at the arse-end of the season.

But maybe something along the lines of "we've been shite, it's for the manager to decide our fates now" might have been better?

Ah! The old 'all footballers are thick' routine?

Why not simply make up a quote not uttered by the said player and then call him a 'muppet' for presumebly (not) saying it?

If only he was as erudite as some of the thoughtful contributions that are continually trotted out on this forum. :)
 
The retained/tranxfer list will give us a clue if NA is of a similar opinion as Long and Basham regarding the squad, then I will be very concerned.

No, of course it wouldn't. How would that look once the press had got hold of it? It's not like being a tennis player where you can be highly critical of yourself without involving others. If he said 'we've been shit' he's slating his teammates, some of whom he'll be playing with next season. For the sake of a shitty interview and the praise of a few supporters, who'll say 'well said George' before going back to calling him a cunt next time he makes a mistake.

Looks like there aint owt to spend ..... so who would you let go ?, knowing the only replacements are from the Academy

Wouldn't suprise me if the not retained list was empty - snafu MKII on the way

There seems to be an assumption that "keeping hold of them" is somehow cost neutral. Anyone that is retained on a new contract would presumably get a signing-on fee, so there are plenty of savings we could make by releasing our higher earners up for renewal and reinvesting in sensible signings.

They're not all thick, but there must be some reason why they decided at an early age to specialise in what is basically P. E.
 
Maybe he should have gone through the squad and highlighted who's been shit and should be binned, then had a pop at the large number of fans who wrote him off and gave him a hard time.
I reckon that would be a really smart thing to do and it would make him really popular too.
Honesty doesn't prove you've got a brain, telling the brutal truth is easy, showing tact, being professional and not being divisive on the other hand is the smart thing to do.

No, it actually means that all footballers have an individual IQ and shoe size. :)

Footballers' IQs < their shoe sizes? Hmmmmmm. Don't think so.

Second thoughts however...how about a compromise? IQs < their shoe size? Yup. Nailed it. :)
