I've lived in Melbourne for the last 53 years and have followed the Blades all that time. For many years information was sparse as the best we got in the local papers was the weekend UK game scores, thankfully the internet has solved that issue.

I was born and lived in Heeley Bottom until I left the UK in 1964 at age 15. The last 2 games I attended were against Wolves over that Easter weekend, 1-1 away on Monday and 4-3 at home on Tuesday. We left Sheffield for Australia the day after.

Finally saw them play live again in August 2008 against QPR. Blades won 3-0 - Sharp scored a hat trick and to top it off the day was my 60th birthday.

G'Day mate. One of my mates in our village is from Melbourne (Geelong) and I'm trying to get him into TRAWWs. He tries to get me supporting the Geelong Cats but I can't get on with the blue and white!

Absolutely fell in love with Melbourne when we visited a couple of years ago - great city

Welcome peteribb

Hey small world mate? My pal Chris emigrated to Australia, you probably won't know him and to be totally honest, I'm not even sure where he lives?
:tumbleweed:

Welcome.
Any chance of nipping round to Ramsey Street and giving that lass imitating Dee a slap?

In Melbourne 1st week in may if you fancy a pint and some Blades chat. I visit every few months for work and love Melbourne.

I normally stay on Collins and have a run along the river up to the MCG and back. The choice is whether to wear a Blades shirt or my England Cricket training top. One i great for winding up the locals, the other just baffles them!

I am going in November to finally tick the Melbourne Cup off my bucket list. Suggestions for places to stay / drink etc?

You're right - probably not - I live in Victoria, the smallest state - it's bigger than the UK - the rest of it is huge.

Not a Geelong (the Cats) fan as they beat my team St Kilda (The Saints) in the grand final a few years back. We have a strange system here for Aussie Rules footy - at the end of
the season the top EIGHT teams battle it out over September with the final two going into the grand final - usually about 100,000 turn up for this one.

Hi - anywhere in the Melbourne CBD would be ok. There are plenty of hotels and eating/drinking places there - also the Southbank/Casino precinct is usually buzzing. Getting to Flemington racecourse for the Cup is easy as they run special trains from Flinders Street station to there.

Yep - he always has a party around the Grand Final and keeps me informed of how the play offs are shaping up.

Another coincidence is that there is a Primary School in Victoria with the same name as ours (Everton Primary School). Their Head came to visit us when she was over here and they are all St Kilda fans!

Eyup cobber!

My brother in law lives in Melbourne - emigrated from Leeds some years ago and is now an Aussie citizen.

I'll give you his address.

Then you go round and twat the, well, twat!

:D

Hi Caveblade - Send me some details nearer your trip. We don't get into Melbourne CBD that often as we live about 70km south but I'll do my best to see you. We will be leaving on the 11th May for a trip back to the UK so time will be tight. UTB

Did you sit on the Kop with some of your Sheffield relatives in 2008

Why would an England cricket training top baffle the locals.

Hi - sorry about the late reply but I've been in the UK and France through May and June. No I wasn't on the Kop that day but in the BLUT with my Donny mate who we were staying with. I went with him to the Keepmoat for their game with the Blades - unfortunately I was sitting amongst all of the home fans and had to keep my Blades hat in my pocket. It was hard not to cheer when we scored (won 2-0). I do have many happy (mainly) memories of standing on the Kop in the early sixties and of walking round the ground at half time to stand on the BL end.
