Our first premier league season saw us alter our usual formation very slightly and operate with a midfield three that was a bit more of a flat 3 with one "sitter" (Norwood) and two box to box midfielders. (fleck and lundstrum / Berge).

Its not crazy to think Wilder will again tweak the system for our second season in the prem as he's constantly wanting improvement.

With the players we currently have (and assuming a few additions). What formation / system can you see a change to (if we do change).

Personally I think the back 5 / overlapping CB system will remain but can see another slight tweak to the middle. Something like:

-----------------------GK---------------------

RWB-----RCB-----CB------LCB---LWB

----------------CDM-------CDM----------

--------RAM-----------------------LAM----

------------------------ST-----------------------

With the players we currently have the back 5 picks itself. Norwood and Berge would both be "sitters" in the CDM role and the AM duo would suit fleck and Mcgoldrick with Mcburnie up top. The system isn't too different from our current one and would still allow us to create overloads out wide.

(this post isn't suggesting we SHOULD change our system. Its been an incredible season and we'd have all taken 9th at the start of the season. Its just aimed to discuss potentional alternate systems that COULD potentially suit us).

So, basically, what Wolves play, but with overlapping centre backs?

Which to people that know football would be very difficult. We have the 3 central midfielders this season as we don’t want to get countered and we need to be able to fill gaps if defenders get caught up field. In the championship with our old formation we could get countered regularly but they didn’t have the quality to hammer us (Fulham did though )

I hear he's toying with the idea of playing an attacking goal keeper.

Henderson

Basham
Egan
O'Connell

people that "know football" also said overlapping CB's wouldn't work in the prem and we would get battered every week.

it was pointed out during a recent match (think it was the Chelsea game) that we had 7 players in the box when a cross was put in. Accounting for the GK and the player putting the ball in that means we only had 2 outfield players covering a potential counter attack.

In the system with two CDM's we would have at least 3 (the CB and the two CDM's).

We have witnessed and enjoyed some great moments these last four seasons but some of the most enjoyable for me was when Duffy was playing, we were often in control of the game with more lots of possession, I appreciate we are in the Premier league and it won't be as straightforward but could we not go back to that system centered around a new Duffy? Could Brooks be the player? Some on here know more about these type of players who may be available but to go back to that sort of football would be brilliant

I will the tactics to Chris Wilder and Alan Knill who we both can agree have forgotten more about football than we know!
