£7m would for be a bargain for a permanent deal but Wilder today seemed to be indicating that a loan was likely. I can't se Man U selling him now. Why, when you can loan him out for another loan fee and then assuming he does sell sell him for at least double the £7m mentioned now or maybe even he'll be given a chance at Man U if he continues to impress.

Such a shame we're unlikely to get him permanent. It would be like putting £30M+ in the bank for a rainy day!

Put yourself in Wilders shoes.

Debut Prem season, we're guaranteed Hendo and it's up to him if he wants it on loan, or Perm for 7m.

Wouldn't it be prudent in the short term to take the loan deal and free up the 7m for elsewhere? We need to strengthen and spending the 7m+ is only to keep us at the same level when you think about it.

One downside with Henderson is we won’t be allowed to play him for 2/38 games and we could be in for 6 points in those 2 fixtures

Yep, i mentioned that on one of the threads a few days ago. We need to have a solid backup, not sure if Moore is good enough - for both the two games against Man Utd but also if Henderson gets injured or has a major dip in form.
But if Man Utd won’t sell, 2 games shouldn’t stop us signing him on loan.

I'm quite sure that Moore definitely isn't good enough. He's a decent L1 keeper and no more. Him playing twice v Man Utd (even in their current form) frightens the life out of me.

I'm very glad the signing of another keeper is being mentioned.

Depends how you view it.

You can have 2 loans. Say you also want Reece James as well.

You loan Hendo and James then go looking for 20m strikers or you spend 7m on Hendo and loan James and a 20m striker!

Hendo isn't going to be Man U no 1.

They'll stick with DeGea. If they decide to offload for millions, they'll either go for Oblak or Navas. Very doubtful they'll go with Hendo. He could have spent 3 years at a club by then instead of being loan ranger ad nauseum. Then if Man U really wanted him back, they'd just give us a bid we couldn't refuse.

Agree that he might not be Man U number one for a while yet, but wonder whether they might cash in on De Gea, leaving Hendo as back up to an incoming keeper who costs quite a bit less than De Gea`s transfer fee. They need cash to buy a defence, and probably a few in other positions.

How hard would it be to get a deal where we would buy him permanently for £1, keep him for the season and then have a clause where they can buy him back for £1 at the end of the season.

We get our player and can still bring in two loans
Dean gets his move
Man United get him back should they still have him in their plans.
Everybody wins

Usual loan fee would be £500,000 into the millions I imagine for a Prem to Prem. Any ideas why MUFC would send him here for a quid over another Prem club who offered a more lucrative loan deal? Can’t see them having their pants down.

We need a permanent goalkeeper

It's up to us to make the right offer to Man Utd and Henderson

If we do we'll get him, if not he'll go somewhere else.

If we're going to shit our pants at the thought of £7 million, £10 million, or even £15 million for a player we want ,what's the point ?

Hesitation on a permanent transfer might depend on what sort of buyback clause Man U want to slap on.

They're not thick. They know he won't get near their first team any time soon but they know he has huge potential. If they want to be able to buy him back in two years for a pittance then we'd have an asset who has drastically increased in value who we're not going to make any money on. That doesn't do the club any favours.

This is all dependant on Hendo getting better of course, which we all expect him to.

See what you mean, but him playing 8 games per season plus reserve games isn't going to be good for him at all. He has to be number one somewhere at his age or he will not develop.

I suspect we have been linked with Etheridge as if to say to OGS "we can't wait all summer before we pick our no 1, while you decide. We're offering him 36 Prem games, but you need to take those now".

It's not as if Premiership no 1 spots are ten a penny. Most teams will already have their first choice keeper for the season now.

If it's what it takes, agree to a low buy back price for Man U and a big sell on clause.

We might make next to nothing on him if/when they bought him back.

But we'd certainly not be making any money if we had him on loan. Only losing it.

And then there's the short term benefit of affording 2 loans for outfield players.

It would be a shame to lose him cheaply but it's better than the alternative.

Honest questions:

Firstly; how much money do you expect us to spend next season?

Secondly, how many players do we need?

If you divide the 1st number by the second number, and the figure is less than £15m, that will explain why we're unlikely to buy him permanently.

4 players
£50 million

Average is £12.5 million but not all players will cost £12.5 million

We need a permanent goalkeeper

We don't if we can get Henderson, or someone on a similar level, by way of a loan. This season is proof of that.

Our greatest need is for people who score goals. Our two main strikers did a fine job this year but that's a big step up. We need goals.

We're never spending 50 million pal
Wilder said it will be similar to Norwich and there budget is a reported 20 million.
We somehow need about 6/7 players out of that.

4 players
£50 million

We currently have a squad of 23 senior players:

  1. Baldock
  2. Stevens
  3. Fleck
  4. JOC
  5. Bash
  6. Lundstram
  7. Sharp
  8. Egan
  9. Norwood
  10. Goldy
  11. Freeman
  12. Stears
  13. Bryan
  14. Duffy
  15. Moore
  16. Eastwood
  17. Wright
  18. Clarke
  19. Carruthers
  20. Evans
  21. Heneghan
  22. Thomas
  23. Holmes
With the bottom 7 of those on the transfer list. That alone suggests at least 7 signings coming in + a GK.

That's not including the 7 players that were making the matchday squad that all left the club yesterday:
  1. Henderson
  2. Dowell
  3. Hogan
  4. Madine
  5. Coutts
  6. Johnson
  7. Cranie

Very reliable source !!

Because we can loan him and use that money elsewhere on trying to stay up. Yes we want Deano on a perm transfer but it’s about getting the most out of the budget year in year.

Now our team will next season will have Deano and maybe a new 10m striker. If we stay up we will have the additional funds to buy him.

Got to trust the best management team around.

We're going to need more than 4 players dude. 7/8 at the very least.

Yes ideally, but even the Championships best players can be £15 - £20 million

So if we are planning on raiding the Championship we'll not even be getting the best from the division lower

So loans and free's look most likely

I suspect you're going to be very disappointed with the actual outlay over summer. On the plus side, some of us might make the bench if CW only signs 4 players.

Deano’s own wishes may have some influence. He has persuaded the powers that be at Manure to let him go on loan at Shrewsbury and us the last 2 seasons. He has clearly loved playing for us and the club as a whole. We know he wants to play for us next season so may be he will be able to influence the powers to make it happen.

and if Man U don't need him we get a very good player for a pound, nope can't see any problems with that.
