For a very small fee; so says Reading Chronicle.

Reading are apparently keen on a move for Sheffield United defender Ben Heneghan, sources say.

Heneghan, 25, signed for Sheffield United in 2017 after an excellent spell at Motherwell.

The Manchester-born centre half has yet to make an appearance for the Blades but had a hugely successful loan spell at Blackpool last season in League One.

Sources say that Heneghan won't command much of a fee and Reading are reportedly keen to move for Heneghan.

A decent move for him if so. He won't get a look in at Utd and Reading will provide a step-up in quality for him. They need to improve at the back and have a decent set-up with their stadium and training ground. He'll also benefit from playing with and learning from Liam Moore (until he's sold!).

Would have no issues with offloading. Very unlikely that he will break through now.

It's going to be hard to shift the L1 loanees of last year with their (probable 25%) wage rises, the level they're at teams simply can't afford them. Reading being in for Henegan would be ideal but a bit of a surprise.

Carruthers in paticular will have had his wage doubled since League One at minimum.

Isn't there a midfielder we are rumoured to be after from Reading. We can chuck in a few more players if that helps.

In all probability we'll be subsidising some wages. Samir and Ricky Holmes hardly proved themselves to be safe bets when it came to injuries though.

Leon will get takers in the Champ I reckon, but again, we'll be covering some wages.

Nathan Thomas will be a very easy sell. League 1 or lower Champ for him I reckon.

Chedwyn will be interesting the likes of Sunderland again too. Again, we'll be paying some of his wages, but hopefully the fee will make that less painful.

Be disappointing if Jake Wright doesn't get himself a new club.

An academy Dad on here was very bitter about Heneghan, but he managed 49 appearances for Blackpool last season.

GLTTL

He did make an appearance for us actually, in the cup against Preston in 17/18. In my humble opinion he's two slow to work in our system but GLTTL, a perfectly good CB.

If this is the pond Reading are fishing in, that could say quite a bit about their financial situation and they might be willing to entertain offers for their best players.

Is Liam Moore still any good? Could fit our system very well.

Blunderland & Reading have enquired about Heneghan, according to SSN

DUO ENQUIRE ABOUT HENEGHAN
Sunderland
and Reading have made initial enquiries about a move for Sheffield United defender Ben Heneghan, according to Sky sources.
The central defender is surplus to requirements at Bramall Lane and spent last season on loan at Blackpool, while his parent club were winning promotion to the Premier League.
