Hi, Stegossurus here,

Anyone else worried we might do a double drop? Confidence is shot. Wilders lost the lockeroom. Players are wank.

Beating Derbys record, I csmt see us bouncing back. In fact, I see us doing a double drop back to League 1

Can't say it hasn't crossed my mind, Steg.

No. Not at all. I see us being a top Championshp team. But then I'm not on the wind up.

No. No I don't. Simply put, we have far much more money than 21 other championship clubs. The 3 relegated sides from last season are looking good for coming back up. I don't see that being too dissimilar for next season.

Some of our players will leave, but having seen the effort they're putting in, won't say I'll miss them. A few of them have destroyed their reputations to be honest. They'll no longer be remembered as the squad that flew up the divisions, they'll remembered as the worst side in PL history.

Pointless worrying about this now. We’ll probably know quite clearly in August. We’ll either win all our games or we’ll lose them all. Then we’ll know what the collateral damage is.

It's a possibility Mr Dinosaur. I'd say it's more likely to be a gradual route back to L1 though, maybe over the course of 4/5 years. The financial burden we'll be under next season in terms of wages and player contract amortisation will harm us, if we don't get promoted before the parachute payments dry up then we'll be in a race to cut the wage bill. That will lead to selling cheap and buying even cheaper. It's a self fulfilling prophecy from there on in.

The other option is to copy the pigs and cheat, hope we get a minimal fine/deduction and just carry on being dodgy like they have. I see no discernible punishment to stop teams doing this with the way that pigs and Derby are carrying on.

No.

I’m not convinced we’ll go straight back up but absolutely no chance we’ll be anywhere near the lower reaches of the Championship.

I think we’ll probably finish somewhere between 4th and 8th.

For all of those in the know, what are the ‘parachute payments’ once you get relegated?
Have they been reduced because of the effects of Covid due to reduced TV money, gate receipts or anything else which might mean less money available?
Would be pleased to hear.

I'm assuming that whatever the % that the TV has wiped off the overall deal will be applied to parachute payments. From memory it was around £300m and the overall package value is around £3bn so if you assume 10% lower it might be a good starting point. I haven't researched this but I'm sure I remember £300m being mentioned.

Going on the recent tweet from football finance expert Kieran Magiure, we’ve just borrowed against our Prem TV money up until 2023.

Now considering we will be relegated this year, my assumption is that this borrowing will be against the parachute payments, as such I’m not sure you can be given an accurate answer to that question as I’d assume that a healthy proportion of those payments will be going straight to the bank.

Parachute payments amount to about £90m paid over three years.

In the first year, the payment is 55 per cent of the amount that each Premier League club receives as part of its equal share of broadcast revenue. Based on the most recent figures, that percentage is roughly £40m. The percentage is reduced to 45% in the second year (roughly £35m) and 20% in the third year (roughly £15m).

Teams that have been relegated from the Premier League in their first season after promotion only receive two years of parachute payments.

If a relegated team earns promotion back to the Premier League within that three-year period, they do not continue to receive parachute payments.

It depends really.

If we were to lose Egan, O'Connell & Berge then I think we could find ourselves in trouble.

Yep, I posted on another thread that we’d get 100 points and another open top bud parade. I’ve changed my mind, I think we’ll do the double and be the shittest Premier League team & Championship team ever.

Smegasaurus ?
We seem to be spiralling downwards in confidence. There does seem to be a whiff of spineless acceptance of the situation. all seems a bit disjointed compared to our previous 4 years of team spirit .
However, if CW does what he did when he came in, and clear out the deadwood and negativity, there's no reason why we can't push for promotion .

no top 6 im confident

The argument that we will romp the championship with this squad makes me smile, no chance we go from the worst ever Premiership team to the best championship team the season after.

There will be a hangover 100%, we are going to finish on less points than Huddersfield did a few years ago and they've been in the bottom half of the championship ever since. They punched above their weight for one season like we did then their luck ran out.

I dont think we'll be in a relegation battle, but I think playoffs will be the best we can hope for.

We will get more points than derby did, their record is safe
