In the most likely scenario, top 8 (minus Man City) will have a European spot. This happens when:

  • Manchester City appeal gets rejected (ruling CAS half july)
  • Arsenal does not win the FA cup.

Place 5 = Champions League group stage (If Chelsea wins the CL & Wolves / Man utd win the EL, and both of those winners end outside the top 5 in the PL, place 5 will turn into a EL spot)
Place 6 = Europa League group stage
Place 7 = Europa League group stage
Place 8 = Europa Leagues second qualifier round

Current standing:

Our remaining games:

Burnley (A)
Wolves (H)
Chelsea (H)
Leicester City (A)
Everton (H)
Southampton (A)

Basically 5 games against direct competitors, and Southampton is in place 14 with 40 points.

How many points do you think we need for European football?

I think 2 wins, 2 draws and 2 losses should be enough. Winning from Burnley is key, since we're getting our 3 hardest matches (on paper) straight after that. Hopefully we can take points there as well, so we have a bit of leeway before we play our "winnable" games against Everton & Southampton.

I reckon worst case we will need 11 points. Arsenal have a horrible run-in and as long as your two assumptions above stand, we only need to finish ahead of them or Spurs.

I said yesterday we need to beat Spurs and Burnley and that's still true I think. We'll do finish 8th I reckon, just depends on the appeal!
