Just on my way back from the match. Shocking defending tonight. We should have won that game comfortably. Taylor missed a sitter just before half time. Moving Walker into the middle and putting France in killed our defense tonight. Walker was not comfortable at all and France was shocking. It disrupted our defense too much we desperately need another centre half.We gifted them the points tonight. Just hope we can use this result to get us fired up for the derby.

Disagree..Mojo was just stating the facts. I think we have a good team but anyone can see we need cover in the centre back area..and conceding 3 tonight without Killa proves it. Hopefully he will be fit for fri and we can give him a new contract *and* get someone in in loan as cover as well.

2 goals away from home should usually be enough for a point at least..just because someone isn't afraid to accept reality doesn't mean they are a knocker

There's no need to go crazy after tonight's result, but it probably reinforces the point many of us have been making since the unusual departure of Bromby that we are seriously lacking in cover in the middle of defence. It may well be that Killa is back for Friday. Even if he does return, we can't have our right back being the main back-up to the middle of defence, as it means that whenever there is an injury/suspension we have to switch the positions of half of the defence.

We also seem to have transformed overnight from having an abundance of good right-backs to just one fit one. It would be an enormous bonus to the season if Geary were to miraculously recover

Hmmm 1 game with a new back 4 doesn't also mean that we need centrehalf cover. Were Morgs and Walker at fault? Fullbacks? Midfield cover?

Its 1 game, 1 defeat in 7, 1 away defeat... To be fair before today the back 4 had been settled for a 6 games. Walker looked solid v Hull away last season, crap today...

If Killa's out for a couple of games then we need to get the defence sorted and get them playing before friday. It doesn't necessarily mean that we have a crap squad

Too many people are too quick to have a go.

Totally agree Mojo. To be there at the end of the season you need a strong squad, not just a good 11. A tried and tested centre half in the squad is something that most people would say is a must have for any club looking for automatic promotion...

It isn't having a go, it's stating something that most would say is fairly obvious. Bromby would have been useful for us tonight in my opinion.

think everyone is making a fair point but we have got to get centre half cover can't believe KB isn't talking about getting in cover don't think we are desperate for forward cover at all just yet

Can people not see reality here? It has been sodding obvious ever since Bromby left that if Killa or Morgs were ruled out we would struggle. We are good enough for top 4 this season easy but this will not happen if we play people out of position at the back without having appropriate cover. It's not knocking anything, it's merely stating facts. We're going great guns this season, no one can argue that, and Blackwell must take a lot of credit for this. He's not stupid and will realise our weaknesses tonight and will put them right for friday by whatever means he has at his disposal.
We'll be fine for Friday, so long as we don't hump high balls up to Webber on his own....
WIZARDS!

Well Im not sure we can hoof the ball to Portsmouth.

You really don't think we need centre back cover?...really?

We have had a good start, i don't think anyone denies that. Mojo's point was that our squad is not strong enough. ie, outside the first 11 we struggle to maintain the quality. Tonight we used players in our defence outside our first 11 and we shipped 3. Seems pretty obvious to me that we need defensive cover.

And thats *all* i (and i think mojo as well) is saying. Nothing more or less. How you interpret this as 'having a go' is beyond me

Im not being negative. If we are serious about getting promotion we desperately need another centre half. Walker made more mistakes tonight than he has done all season. Best beat him easily for the first goal. Monty was at fault for the second but France didnt exactly help. It was just so frustrating watching that tonight the game was there for the taking.

Totally agree. What a terrible result. Obviously games are lost throughout a season but to collapse all because one centre back has an infection is very, very worrying and for all you eternal optimists it is not something that can be just cast aside as a bad day at the office.

Walker is not ready for battle as a centre back in our division and France is a total joke. Basically we have chucked 3 points away and if that defence plays on Friday it will be the same again. Johnson will rip us apart.

Am sure i'll start something again but i have to mention boro needed centre half cover so they went out and got a cracking player showing ambition for me yes keeping killa last week was a good move but securing a good centre half cover would show reel intent. Lets hope he is fit friday or might see a goal fest.

Glad pigs shipped 3 tonight as well.

SwissBlade, I think it's good to defend the club, and often we, the fans, are too harsh in our criticism. However, a few people have for some time pointed out a specific weakness in the squad that may cost us valuable points - maybe three of them tonight.

Be careful that you're not branding valid and relevant concerns as just moaning from doom and gloom merchants.

No we would be good enough if we had a bigger squad but for whatever reason be it funds, agents, players, players families, other clubs, the dog, the cat, the milkman etc. We havnt got the players we would like to have and we are left with a bare thin squad.

Still should have a CB atleast though.

I am starting to think Blackwell cant attract the quality needed to be honest. Regardless of the spin the club want to put on the lack of signings.

just hope we don't get the usual sorry "the lads did well tonight" i expect him to acknowledge the defeat was a bad one, shouldn't have happened and we must do better friday.
France should be waterboy friday walker needs to be back at right back because johnson is unpredictable, I'd rather see hendo at centre half. If killa isn't fit then we need an emergency loan tomorrow so he can fit in for friday we just can not lose on friday not again,

Hello I'm Swiss Blade 2. We've just lost to a shocking Coventry side but so what, I'm really, really happy that it was an exciting game with 5 goals. If anyone dares question the squad re-profiling then shame on you.

I just cannot wait to see if Francey gets a game on Friday, after all we won't miss Walker's pace at right back and all in all things are looking great. Injuries, suspensions - won't happen, everyone just relax and it'll be OK on the night.

It really is totally unprofessional for any professional football club, let alone one with Premiership aspirations, to have no cover at centre back. Young Kyle was never going to be the answer he's an outstanding 19 year old right back. He's under 6 feet tall and lacks experience at this level. He never will be a centre half; it's obvious.

Anyone could see that we were vulnerable to injury or suspension in central defence. It's shamefully amateurish to fail to bring in cover for the first choice pairing once Bromby was sold. How many Championship clubs have less than 4 centre backs in their squads? We expect to manage with 2! Ridiculous! This truly staggering ineptitude has cost us 3 points tonight and will cost many more if not addressed immediately. It's the sort of comedy management normally reserved for S6.

Sort it out now Blades.

Stop operating like a Sunday League outfit United

Spot on Pinchy. It really is a joke. With the big ST sales, West Ham millions, money for the Kyles etc you would have thought we could stretch to bringing in decent central defensive cover. Typlical United unfortunately - always trying to get by on the cheap.

I just hope Killa & Morgs are both fit for Fri.

>1 defeat (and it was away) and it starts.....
the writing is on the wall .. some of us can see it and some prefer to stick their head in the sand.. whilst results and injuries are going for us then it will be ok but when something like this happens then we look short..
leaving us with no defensive cover, three recognised forwards and a thousand defensive midfielders was a bit risky IMO..
and i'll say again .. 'how does quinn get in the team.. there must be a conspiracy' :-)

We are becoming a club where it really is more about the business than it is about the football. A deal here and a deal there and most of them being off the field. Brilliant we have a host of sister clubs yet little to show from it apart from farming players deemed not good enough for us off to them.

I don't think it's time for panic, but even with Bromby still at the club alot of the fans were saying that getting cover for the back four was a priority. Especially considering Morgan is always likely to be suspended for a couple of games, regardless of injuries that may occur.

I'm still not sure why we've not brought anyone in, and I was just waiting for something to happen on deadline day with a centre half. It was a big dissappointment for me that we didn't bring anyone in.

We're ok with the back 4 that have been starting all season, but now we've got an illness and an injury to Taylor last night, it's worrying and it should be addressed as soon as possible.

We have a good squad, but it's just too thin on the ground; and that's what normally causes a problem over a 50+ game season. I'm confident that it will get sorted out, it's just going to be a case of better late than never unfortunately...

We can only hope that last night gives Blackwell a kick up the ar*e.

Most Blades agree that we have a very good first team. We have cover in midfield, just about up front, but not at all in defense. However this problem is easily solved. If Blackwell brings in another decent centre half then we'll be ok.

People are right to be upset though. It was a silly mistake not to have CB cover. If Blackwell learns from this and brings in a loan signing in the next week or so then there shouldn't be any more cause for concern.

One thing we have never had on here is the idea of someone being "positive" or "negative". We just have United fans and they think differently about lots of different things.

You may think the team is good but the catering is crap. Does that make you "positive" or "negative"?

I am keen for people's opinions not to be simply castigated as such so that a proper discussion can take place.

It's very easy to label someone as one thing or the other, it's a little harder to address their points in a clear argument.

We do however ask that you try. It really does result in interesting discussions rather than petty point scoring which ends up with people falling out and me losing my temper :)
