There won't be the dead wood and overconfidence in the misleadingly mediocre like there was the last 2 times we went down to the Championship.

2007 was awful for it, thinking 'ah, he'll be alright in't championship' with the likes of luton shelton, gillespie, jon stead and michael tonge (who lets be honest was absolutely gone as a footballer once we were relegated, as his subsequent career proved).
Ditto 2021 with Oli Burke, Mousset, Enda Stevens had absolutely gone by this point and Didzy was past his best (luckily we had a minor miracle happen through the emergence of N'Diaye).
We also started the season with Michael Verrips as our number 1 option once Ramsdale was sold, happily this won't be happening with Grbic.

The injuries and horrific recruitment situation this season has led to the likes of Anel and Souza being shown for what they really are when our backs are against the wall and we needed some quality defensive players and leader. Theres also little by way of illusions as to where Auston Trusty is as a footballer, he's not even a wilder type of player, utterly awful on the ball.
Its a good thing for us that we won't be spending the first 6-10 games of next season finding out how good traore, slimane and trusty are. We know they're absolutely awful.

Theres a long term benefit to a season not papering over any cracks whatsoever, every weakness we have has been brutally punished. Basham and Norwood have come to the end of their cycle, max lowe is off the wage bill and we're also ripping off the band aid with Baldock and most likely mcburnie as well.

Strength through adversity, its good to go into a season as a club not overestimating how good our squad is.

I agree with you re the players you've mentioned.
But will Chris ?
It's crucial to be decisive and cut out the injury prone , the half-hearted & those who are just not good enough to be at the top end of the Championship.
That leaves very few 🙄

So you're telling me... we're bouncing straight back up?

It's a fair point you make, and if we can retain 3 or 4 of the 'out of contract' players and get the likes of RND and Brewster fit, then once you add in the likes of Peck, Jebbison - then it's not as bad as some/most are making out!

Can't find an awful lot wrong with this!

I am actually excited for next season and do think we will push top 3. This also bodes really well for our long term future with a lot of youth getting chances at a decent level and seeing even more on the fringe (One/Louis Marsh/Seriki/Buyabu)

If we really lose/get rid of Anel/Souza/Traore for £30m + and bring in quality, we should be in a good state.

(I like Trusty and Slimane so you shouldn't trust anything I say 😆 )

The only thing that's slightly off is trusty, he was Birminghams poty last season in the championship. I think with a steady CB next to him (Egan if he's recovered) he'll be ok.

I think we need to hope a team somewhere is so desperate they pick up those players rather than doing even a tiny bit of homework.
Getting rid might not be that easy, the level of clubs that they are fit for might not be able to meet anything like the wages they will be in even after a wage drop next season.

It’s not so simple just saying they will be gone, we need buyers who can match their wages or we might be stuck with them. If they go out only on loan then that will have a major impact on transfer in budget, meaning we may be waiting around for them to go due to the cash flow issues we’ve always seemed to have with this owner.
