For me the 5-5 draw gave me a lot to be positive about.
Done getting a full preseason with us, the emergence of che, Basham starting the season in centre midfield excites me too but I think it's safe to say that the majority of blades are disappointed with how our season ended.
Do you guys switch off now for the summer, or do you sit trawling our forms waiting for the spark to get the positivity going for next season? Whether it be a big signing, the fixtures, a new manager or even just the new kit, what are you waiting for before you can fully buy into our new slogan "the season starts now"?
Is anyone losing hope as the years tick by that we are slowly becoming a league one club? Or are you one of those fans who regardless of who we sign or sell thinks "this is our year"?

It's too early on in the close-season to have any enthusiasm for football now. For the last few years, I've found myself relieved that the season has finished because when you end up going to every game, it becomes a massive drain on your time and energy, especially with what we've had served up for most of the season. Give it six weeks or so for me to get bored at the weekends and the fun will return in time for pre-season.

In the meantime, I've got stuff to do around the house, beer festivals, gigs... it's nice to have a change.

I can't wait for the season to start, either way.

But for me to feel enthused I'd need Clough to tell us last seasons football was unacceptable and we'd be setting out to go at teams for 90 minutes, from the first game.

I really can't do with watching more of that style of football.

To sign the right players addressing the problems.

And for once let's have a good pre season

The first sentence is almost word for word what I was going to come on and say. The emphasis has to be on the right signings. They've got to have known quality and address the issues that were there for all to see last season.

If Clough does sign the correct types of player, it will already show improvement from last season when we signed too many steady, versatile players and not enough quality, specialist ones.

Despite my outburst about wanting Clough to leave after the 5-5 debacle, deep down I don't want him to go, just get better. Learn from his mistakes and take us up as convincingly as possible.

17 years not learning says he won't change, get rid, we are not his training ground we are SUFC and deserve better if he can't do it

Have a massive LIKE Alco, your last sentence sums it up for me.

Great question ( the OP)
I am quite torn from ...on the one hand thinking thank god that season is over so we can just put it behind us and just semi forget about sufc over the summer ... To the other hand wanting to get into all the detail of potential ins and outs, strategy ..even the new pitch!! Now that's sad !

But seriously I think there are absolutely stacks of blades feeling sick to the stomach of another season of ultimate failure .. Even taking account of the polar opposite views we get on here about pretty much everything .. That's what it has been.

I totally agree with some of the posts earlier that good , relevant signings will help re enthuse but the key for me ( again repeat previous) is an out and out change in approach and a statement from all at sufc that next season will be more entertaining !!'

That is a fair point. The thing with Clough is, I would class him as frustrating, rather than outright rubbish. He showed us in the previous season that he is capable of getting a team up for games, playing high tempo, expansive, exciting football, in spite of playing one up front. We always had players supporting the front man and we made chances. We won games because of this.

The frustrating part is that we all saw it work so well, then he reverted to type with negative "nick-a-point" football. We also saw in the play-off semi that when we do attack, we will score goals and, as it said at the time, not many teams will punish us at the back as well as Swindon did, because they just don't have the players to.

All I want is for Clough to show a bit of ambition in games.

Address the centre-half problem, but then set up to win, rather than not to lose. We have most of the attacking players in place to do this. Play to our strengths.

This season, if we had failed whilst trying to beat teams I think a lot of fans would be more forgiving of us not going up.

Just go for it Cloughie, we'd appreciate it.

They need to get the right players in, spend what is needed and really go for it, take no prisoners, get us out of this league once and for all.

I never really switch off from thinking about the Blades, although in the last four years it has usually been "what happens if we don't make the play offs, surely another year in League One will decimate the fan base?", and of course, the next season we are still in League One with decent gates (best in League One).

Over Summer, I quite enjoy the speculation and rumours of who is on his way out (unless it is Jamie Murphy!) and who may be coming in, or who is on the radar, been seen at the training ground, etc. Alright, some of the names that get bandied about are fanciful, even laughable, but it's all good fun.

Then it's case of seeing which pre-season games I can fit in (although it was a very depressing drive back from Burton last year), and getting ready for the season to start.

In between all that, I do try and find five or ten minutes for the missus, although as she is 100% Blade and long time season ticket holder with me, her summer is also occupied with most of the above.

Have a great summer everyone.

Unfortunately, it had the opposite effect on me... but as the clock hands crawl round until the season starts again I will fill the time. But the enthusiasm will return. If we can sort the defence out, I think the rest of the pieces should fall naturally together. A bit of tightening at the back will give confidence and hey ho, hey ho, off out of that league we'll go.

After the last couple of days, a tribute match to/for Woody would bring some closure to take place around 4/6 weeks time. Something to say thanks with and look forward to, then the drive towards the 1st game of the season.

Get decent lg 1 or above, players bought, more emphasis on attack. Oh, and pick your best 11 and only change it when necessary, injuries, suspensions lack of form.

We finished on a bit of a high last season, or at least with a bit of momentum but signing wise and friendly wise nothing in the summer particularly got me excited for this season. In fact, Adidas was our best preseason signing.

Keep admission prices at the same level. Good deal for us pensioners.

O want us to attack teams and dominate the league next year. I want us to put out a team that tries its best and doesn't sit back when 1-0 up at home.
Give us this and the fans will be happy.
