This looks like an awesome idea for the kop.
We've surely got the land.

Are you watching Jim,Kevin and the Prince?

I see this idea is up for a Sports Technology Award- great video apart from the colour of the seats!

Imagine being able to convert an outdoor stadium into an indoor arena within minutes. That is the idea behind StadiArena, founded by former footballer Paul Fletcher.
From outdoor stadium to indoor arena within 6 minutes.

StadiArena converts the end stand of a stadium into a temporary smaller performance space, by using retractable doors to separate the end stand from the rest of the stadium.

StadiArena can be used for rock concerts, televised events, sporting events (e.g. basketball), product launches, conferences, presentations and numerous other functions… making it a truly multipurpose arena.

On construction, the enclosed space provides seating for an audience of 2,000 to 20,000 plus, depending on how you decide to arrange the subdivision.

+++++++++++++

Can fault their ambition but have they put the idea into practice yet? Can't find anything on the site where they have, other than in India. Plus that video is from 2007.

Anyway, would there be any point? We already have a multi-purpose arena in the city.

worth sending to mr Mccabe it sounds and looks good, the kop with all that land behind it would be ideal for a development like that he mr Mccabe and the prince might be interested as the video suggests self financing.

I hate the idea personally, it means fans are further away from the pitch with the floor space needed.

Not sure they could do it with the current space between the bottom of the kop and the ground, glad of that as well!

Of course the council would give us planning permission for something to rival those bits and bobs down Attercliffe .............................. yeah right !

Oh to be sat on the Kop when some tosser presses the button by mistake midway through the first half!

And it gets stuck half way down. Christ, we couldn't even get the normal scoreboards working properly when we played Spurs and had the electronic advertising hoardings.

I like the idea of sitting in a lovely warm indoor arena, perhaps watching boxing in a packed intimate arena... And having to go outside down to the Kop kiosks for a piss, pie and pint!

Think of us smokers! I like the kop as it is id just settle for the posts being removed

I'd press it within the first 30mins and then press it again just intime for the last 15minutes, judging by the home games witnessed thus far. :)

A good innovative idea on a big scale, however I've always thought United should have developed a small size arena (but capacity wise bigger than City Hall, Ponds Forge, Roxy, EIS) behind the Kop or South Stand for all the usual stuff you'd expect basketball, boxing, concerts.

Now the old Don Valley is no more perhaps United should look to putting on big outdoor concerts again, puts Sheffield back on the touring circuit and has all the advantages of an ideal city centre location with transport links, parking, hotels, pubs etc. Good publicity for our ground and club, and makes United some money.

I think they would struggle to get approval for stuff like that due to it being a residential area, and any open air stuff would invariably go to Don Valley Bowl.

I'd imagine if it's fine to increase the ground capacity to 40k then permission for building an arena for 3k wouldn't be much of a problem (United were quite happy to push for a super casino a few years back). As for DV bowl, have SIV ever shown any inclination for staging big outdoor concerts there, they couldn't even be bothered with putting them on at the DVS in its latter years.

People can put up as many what ifs as they want, the only way to test it is for the innovators at the club to try to push on with new ideas.

They had U2 at DVS a few years ago.

Yes, but it will go bankrupt soon. It's the Sheffield way.
It will go bankrupt and have to be pulled down only for another arena to be built on the same site a couple of years later when some bright c@nt realises we haven't got an arena anymore.

They started with a concept, which won awards.Like any concept it is going to take a lot of time to get someone who is building a new stadium to incoporate this into their plans.
I can't even think how long the business planning stage took to get the Indians on board.
The total time taken to even just start to build the Indian project has been around 5 years.
Work started in 2014.
It's due to complete in April 2016.

The arena is pretty limited to big events in he scale of 8,500 seated and a slow expensive transformation to pop concerts for 12,500.
Maybe some can only think of replicating what is done at the Arena, but the vision needs to be vastly broader.
It is a project for long term visionaries.

The Indian stadium in just six minutes installs a partition wall, retracts the first 16 rows of seats creating a covered space which can be used for exhibitions, concerts, conferences, film screenings, indoor sports, receptions and numerous other uses.
My view is anything that can add additional revenue streams to the club needs to be seriously examined
.Perhaps when the Indian one is operational that might prove the concept better.

Think there might be a slight structural issue with this "post". Settle for posts being removed and a new cantilever roof put in and I will feel a lot happier that my fellow blades can watch the game without wearing a girder hat!

Spend up to £1M on a pitch then trample all over with crack heads

kell brook is trying to sort a fight at the lane in the summer.should be going ahead

if they knocked down the kop removed all the rubble and flattened the land could get a 5000 seat arena under the kop

No mention of pies or how they are going to sort the half time catering situation out though!!!
