Had been mentioned for the past year or so by one or two on here as a potential signing.

Personally I wouldn't have been too inspired had we signed him. Decent enough squad player but Fat Controller is welcome to him for me.

He couldn't be arsed to even turn up at Wemberlee 2009 so no loss at all, as far as I'm concerned.

Another player with plenty of skill but no heart IMHO.

So this is one of those classically bitter threads saying 'oh he wasn't that good, we aren't missing out' load of bollocks.

Halford was class. He was class in the championship in about 4 different positions and was vital to our promotion push that season, he'd be unbelievable in league one.

But no, now he's signed for Rotherham he's shite and we'd be disappointed.... Deary me. You'll be singing from the rooftops when we sign Martyn Woolford though I'm sure...

'Class' yes, but he couldn't always be arsed to put any effort in. IIRC the great 'promotion push' ended in dismal failure yet again so his 'class' didn't really help in the end did it?

One of the reasons that I am bitter is that he was garbage in the final. Had he really put a shift in maybe things might have been different, but I don't really want a player back who has already let us down.

The fact that he's signed for Rotherham probably tells you what 23 other Championship managers think of him.

He scored the goal that got us to the play off final.

It seems curiously unforgiving to not want a player on the basis of one bad game.

Halford did a good job in the past for SUFC , Thats in the past . If we are going to be a force to be reckoned with , the players we sign from now on , have to be more than decent .

Exactly what Roy Keane says about him in his book ,quite scathing about his whole attitude. Didn't quite do it for me Im afraid ,in any position.

Add that to the needs list pinned to Adkin's door - defenders, striker, long throw specialist

Not saying Halford is crap but he is no longer anything to go mad on, Jamie Murphy gave him the run around last time he was at the lane.

Yes he was class...6 years ago. If we'd missed out on the Greg Halford we had in 2009 then yes I would be gutted. But in my opinion he's nowhere near that standard any more. Nothing to do with bitterness

I would have welcomed him back as I think he can still offer something and was a big fan of his when he was with us. Saying that I do think he's peaked and would have been a short term improvement on what we have. Not that bothered ultimately but good luck to him.

No, no, no, no!

All former Blades just get betterer and betterer and betterer, the longer they are away. In particular, whenever they sign for a different club they become fantastic and what they did for us just grows out of all proportion to what actually happened at the time. Whenever an old player signs for another club we've missed out big time. He could do a job for us, you see. This is the immutable law of the Bladey Blade.

Bringoldgreggback. Bringemallback!

Halford was a decent player, always gave his all (lets be honest, he wasn't the only one who didn't show up for Wembley!) and has had nothing be nice things to say about the club and fans since he left! I'm sure he would probably admit himself that he was never about taking people on, bombing past defenders, etc (i.e. all the flashy things fans love), but he was a great addition to that squad, acting as a utility player (especially with two bombing full backs in the squad, which allowed him to occasionally slot in wide without the need to get forward himself).

Having spent last season watching players play out of position and also needing centre halves I can certainly see why a signing like Halford might have been a big worry (i.e. people would think he was signed to start in defence), but I still think as long as he wasn't signed for that reason, he could have come in and done a job. All academic anyway, I wish him the best (I know he'd certainly wish us the best, and constantly does on social media!).

Unbelievable. The reason perhaps he ws "garbage" in the final was the fact that he had the absolute living shit kicked out of him by Preston in the semi. He literally got stamped in the bollocks by Parkin amongst some other awful challenges. Even the lass of Jehovah who came for the occasion said "why do they keep kicking that tall guy?"

Dd these blatant assaults stop him? Did they balls. He rose up and scored one of the best ever headers I have seen at Bramall Lane to secure our final appearance. After the game the interviewer commented on him getting kicked to pieces and that he was possibly injured. He said "will you make the final?" Halford replied "try and stop me"

Class player and I am gutted he has gone to Rotherham.
