Our back four were fantastic today didn't give them a sniff. He had one little run and shot in the first half but was straight at Howard.

Think they'll be up there but we're a far superior side to them from what I saw today.

I think at least one of us predicted McEveley would do alright against Byrne! It helps when the left back doesn't give um the freedom of the park ala Harris in the play-offs.
Harris was atrocious in that game , im sute we must have better than byrne in tge youth team

Cant make sense of that

There were wide open spaces in front of Bob. Contrast that with the organisation mentioned by McEveley and Adkins yesterday.

It's a team game.

As they both make clear in their interviews you have to defend all over the pitch.

The front two slow down the opposition so you can regroup. The midfield collectively and individually make sure there isn't space for players to run at you or pass through you.

If both of those have failed then the full back is isolated and exposed. He looks bad but the problems started much earlier.

In the play-offs we didn't do that either because:
  • we were not organised that way by Clough or
  • we were organised but didn't do it because we didn't put in the effort and apply ourselves.
If we'd been poorly organised yesterday Byrne would of ;) run at our full backs and they might well have looked poor but it could well have been, say, Sammon's fault.

There were wide open spaces in front of him because he got booked early on and then decided to retreat 20 yards from byrne every time he picked up the ball
Basically he shit him self and made byrne look like the world beater some poor judges on here think he is

Your post is a great generalisation of full back cover analysis but is not aplicable in this case

Think that would be an extremely stupid thing to say.
Just as stupid as those that we're hailing him as a league one Messi.
The amount of space he was given last season was ridiculous, and he was never exploited by forcing him back using the space in behind him.
He might not be shit but he is isn't what he's been built up to be.

You probably have a point bit I think where it all came from was he had the ball and was ..... running WITH THE BALL at people. After 2013 - 2015's trudge -fest watching him was like cavemen being introduced to the wheel.

it started with a blip
never thought it would come to this
we got some good looking boys who decided to stay around
now weve gone away and won at the county ground

Think the tea lady should get some praise for telling Nige what to do.

Disagree.

For the second in the 2-1 win Byrne has about 20 yards of midfield space to run into. Bob had no chance. It was similar all game. The 20 yards in front of Bob are not his responsibility.

And if he was on a card and vulnerable then the team should re-organise and deal with that.

Do you think that if Freeman or McEveley had been booked early on yesterday then Byrne would have had the freedom of the pitch?

Whose fucking responsibility are they then ?
The groundsmans ?

The fucking midfield.

Would you fucking really fucking like to fucking see Bob fucking Harris fucking wandering twenty fucking yards up the fucking field just because the fucking midfield aren't fucking doing their fucking job?

For fucking fuck's sake.

The fucking groundsman does fucking have fucking responsibility to maintain a fucking decent fucking playing surface but asking him to fucking mark Nathan "Diego fucking Maradona" Byrne is too fucking much.

Hope that fucking helps.

It absolutely should have been a tactic when we got possession to hit that space in behind him. I don't have a problem with the tactical decision being made that you are going to leave Harris exposed, if it's also part of the tactic to exploit what that draws. My issue was that we took that risk defensively and but didn't look to take advantage of what it gave us offensively and that criminal. The players on the pitch should have seen it even if it wasn't a point highlighted by the coaching staff beforehand. An Intelligent player would see that and the wide man would either help defend or ensure the others knew he was looking for the counter. We had two games and didn't work it out. V poor.

Fucking watch fucking Byrne's fucking winning fucking goal in the fucking first fucking leg and then fucking convince me Bob fucking Harris should have been twenty fucking yards up the fucking pitch.

What a fucking load of fucking shit.

As we can now surmise in view of his non-appearance so far this season, and subsequent surgery, there is a very real possibility that Bob was nowhere near 100% fit for the playoff games last season too. That may well have affected his ability to tackle, and/or keep pace with Byrne.

As to who's fault it was to play someone not 100% fit in such important games, I guess that's a thread on its own.
