"Well, an easy (but in no way comprehensive) way of looking at it, is that John came in at the same price Harry went out at. Apart from Harry, there haven't been financially meaningful transfers out. In contrast, however, there have been financially meaningful transfers in fees-wise apart from John. The transfer fees paid for other players in have not been reported publicly in any way, and I won't be revealing anything new on those fees here.

In addition, the player wage bill has been expanded by a quite substantial amount, affecting not only this year, but next year and beyond, whether or not we are promoted. While I will keep my counsel on the specifics, I think it is fair to conclude that we have provided substantial support to management together with the discretion to use the resources as they see fit (within broad parameters). To date, the prince's new investment into the club stands at GBP 10MM.

I earnestly believe we have conducted ourselves in a manner which enables us in good faith to hold management (front office and touchline) accountable for their performance. That said, I believe it is not the time to be discussing the results with a view to determining our go forward plans. Simply put, all of the relevant results are NOT yet in. To my my tastes, we would all do better to settle in for a promotion battle in the playoffs and then when it is all said and done look at things in light of all the facts.

Those openly predicting our failure in the playoffs before the first whistle has blown are most certainly entitled to their views, but they might do well to pause and to consider the potential effect of their open negativity on the club they profess to love. Let's be positive, keep our doubts tamped down, and do what we do every Tuesday and Saturday -- show up determined to sing the lads on to victory."

Just thought it was worth sharing with more Blades.

Very interesting . The overview IMO is us all get behind the Blades for the play offs , which has to be a given

Too much negativity , and hold our council and powder . Which is correct.

The board have done everything possible , with support and investment on playing staff.

The buck stops with the management ( Clough and Staff)

Summary - if we do not get promoted , Clough is to be sacked .

That is the best football communication I have ever heard from Bramall Lane. £10m plus numerous contracts to work through certainly rings true . The Board have backed the manager and they are disappointed. I think it's fair to say that. I also think it's fair to say "come on, we're still in there fighting for promotion, support the lads". I always do at games and I will try to lay off Clough on here until the season is done and dusted.

I read it that the jury is out , but the verdict is already in.

If "John came in at the same fee Harry went out at " we paid £2.5m or thereabouts.

Russell slade said "it got to apoint we couldn't say no anymore". No fucking onder.

As for £2.5m or thereabouts on a full back, as good as he is, in our predicament what the f*** is going on?

Woops I've just said I'll keep my counsel !

Clough wanted Brayford and it was sanctioned he could have him ( a good purchase for now and the future IMO)

It reads to me the board and advisers are edging there bets , on what to do next on the management front , with a little bit of arse covering .

If we succeed , they will have some of the credit , with backing / trust they have given Clough . If its failure , in business , then Clough has to be the fall guy . Rightly or wrongly , we will soon find out .

The wording is clever and can be read in two ways depending which side of the fence you sit on , regarding Clough and the board .

Thx for sharing with non face bookers.

Good piece by JP.

Good he acknowledges whilst there are some reasons for doubters the Blades fans have voted with their feet and bums on seats this season, nearly 22,000 yesterday (20,000 Blades) was outstanding.

Could read as an advert for a new manager, we give you cash, we give you freedom but you've got to manage the OTT wage bill you will inherit

My worry is that in a scenario that we don't go up and the Prince withdraws his support, then we've got a right back on what £15k pw which will be a millstone round our necks in terms of FFP

We'd all be far more positive if we weren't so wounded from previous play off experiences.

We'd all be far more positive if we believed we could keep a clean sheet when it matters.

We'd all be far more positive if we were scoring 5 and 6 like Swindon and MKD have been.

We'd all be more positive if we dominated games in the final third instead of our own half.

We'd all be far more positive if we face a team going down to 10 men and camp out in their half pummelling their goal to get the winner - instead you would have thought we had gone down to 10 and they were going for a play off place for the last 6 of the game and the 5 ET.

It's a great point. My clapperness taken a huge dent with this. I think bringing on Adams was a positive intervention, but for the life of me I can't see why the last five minutes were so dire. Perhaps, as I have alluded to somewhere else, that the players see play offs as a foregone conclusion now and a draw (not losing) suited fine.

Sounds to me like he's gone if we don't win promotion.

I thought Adams made a difference and was looking forward to seeing some more positive runs. As soon as he got the ball the crowd got excited as there was belief something could happen. Why didn't we get him on the ball more then?

Agree with HB we seem to be coasting into the play offs.
Well I'll tell you now. It's not a lottery - it's not a clean slate, it's not a new competition - those that coast into the play offs generally watch the final on the TV

Can't agree with you more. But can only give the one like, hence the post.

Can't post in detail but for various reasons I think the expectations set out here are waaaaay too high.

If this is the expected standard after just over a season and half in charge then we'll need to install a revolving door on the manager's office which would be a real shame.

I'd agree with that. It's lack of intent, rather than lack of actual delivery, that frustrates the fuck out of me.

We'd be far more positive if Clough had've brought in at least one specialist cb, probably two, after bombing out two specialist cb's

If he excites the crowd then he should be on the ball more often?

Shouldn't he be on the ball more often if he's going to increase our chances of winning?

These are two different things.

As it happens yesterday he did manage to drive into the box a couple of times and looked lively and dqngerous possibly bc he hadn't played recently and was to some extent an unknown quantity to Bradford.

If Davies was criticising him I'd like to know why. Some naivety that's more apparent to seasoned pros? (Like the corner flag incident against Spurs.)

Not if the crowd being excited by what he's creating surely? On the couple of occasions he got the ball on Saturday he charged onto the box and pulled defenders to him, their defence suddenly felt charged with a nervous energy (IMHO) lacking before then, which has to be a good thing.

So what should our expectations be with that sort of investment?
The biggest by a MASSIVE margin in this League.

He looked exciting *and* effective yesterday. But he has previously been exciting and ineffective.

I wonder if this.is bc he's disappeared off the video the opposition see before games.

He might need double teaming, and if that's the case and they have to do the same to Murph on the other wing then with Baxter switching play quickly we could create (even more ;-)) chances.

It takes time. There's an undercurrent of Real Madrid sacking managers who don't win the European Cup.

Whatever happens I think Clough should be judged on next season at the earliest.

Yes. He needs more time on the pitch, and I think he merits it.

Reads to me that Clough will go if we fail in the play-offs.

Do we have a new manager thread setup already?
