Given that hope of loan and earlier permanent signings has almost gone, is the money saved in not paying their wages and fees so far going to allow us to pay more on someone for the rest of the season? We may be able to afford someone who is good enough to get us promoted and to play in the Championship next year. This would also help to keep within the Fair-play rules this season.

Expensive signings for only half a season for these reasons are fairly commonplace in other pro sports such as Ice Hockey.

Or is someone going to turn out a Baldrick (me or Nigel)?

Its the hope that kills you.

In all seriousness, expect no one before Thursday's deadline and a wasted January, spouting promises then excuses on radio sheffield.

Latest quote from Nige:

"Hopefully Higdon and McNulty will be fit enough to be in contention for Friday , but we still hope to do business with a striker, although it isn't as pressing now they are approaching a return."

That would be a pre cursor to the inevitable "We tried to get something done, but it didn't work out. We have a few good strikers in Higdon, McNulty, Baxter and Murphy so we'll keep going with what we have"

Spot on, it is the hope that kills you. it's the same broken record for over a year, wouldn't it be nice if he just told the truth as it is just like errrrrrr, his Dad.

It really is pathetic isn't it? First of all, Baxter and Murphy are not out and out strikers. As for Higdon & McNulty, Clough has spent much of the season slagging them off (McNulty) or leaving them on the bench (both) - so to say a new striker isn't as pressing because they will soon be fit is bonkers.

Near 20,000 crowds and still our board won't put their hands in their pockets.

You would have thought that our Board would realise by now that showing no ambition and just hoping we manage to sneak up on the cheap via the play offs doesn't work.

Well, this thread disappointed from the title showing on the home page.

"It's the hope that kills you". From the 1980's John Cleese film Clockwise, I think

Having watched the Football League Show at the weekend, substitute 'someone who is good enough...' for an entire new team. The standard compared to League One is amazing. Teams like Derby (NC's ex-club..) are on fire. As are Birmingham now they've got rid of the 'highly regarded' Lee Clark.

This would also help to keep within the Fair-play rules this season.

This confuses me. Are we the only club that FFP applies to? I dare say that Jermaine Beckford, Kevin Davies and Callum Robinson (all PNE) aren't playing for peanuts. Their highest home crowd this season? 13,280 for the local derby with Fleetwood.

Clough has spent much of the season slagging them off (McNulty)

.

he hasn't thou has he .He has mentioned when he has been disappointed with a players' contribution but he would have told the player himself issue.

He has also done this with other players (e.g.JCR on Saturday). NC isn't perfect by all means but this is absolute rubbish, imo

Yes we have a cunning plan, so very cunning its taken me 17 games to figure it out.

What we do, is we play without a striker and it confuses the other team soooo much that our 6 tiny midfield players can run through the defenders legs and walk the ball into the net resulting in us winning 1 - 0 :tumbleweed:
