Had a bit of the old blades in them tonight, macfadz looked a good centre half, could Ave been us?

Thinking that myself . We are were we are though . Let's see if Wilder can bring the good times back .

Fine lines and all that shit .

Confident he will turn us around . Easy to be sat in front of the telly and the mind forgets numerous buzz are signings and no centre backs ( which fucked Brayford )

UTB not Burton

Of all the managers we've had since we've been in League 1, Clough is definitely my favourite, always felt a good fit to me. Think we probably sacked him too early.

That Jackson Irvine looks the mustard in the middle of the park for them. Good signing. Remember seeing his montage on here and you could see he had it in his locker. Already bagged a few for them.

we would have had to have paid actual money. Move on.

So Clough has beaten the pigs and then beaten a pig. Reason enough to welcome him back with open arms in my estimation no?

Clough wasn't a terrible manager, neither was Wilson and Adkins was just a terrible fit for us, he may well work out somewhere else.

We are a bit toxic aren't we? I remember Wednesday went through the same phase

Pleat, Atkinson, Wilson, Jewell, Shreeves, Yorath, Turner, Sturrock, Laws and Irvine were all part of a general downward curve until Megson and then Jones got them up. Even then it took two more managers and two chairmen to stabilise them in the championship.

We are virtually mirroring that decline, hopefully we will bounce back to the top half of the Championship in the next couple of years

Annoying thing warning Clough now vs. his time with us is his signings.

He bloated us with about 10 players who for 1 reason or another were drains on the club; Turner, Alcock, McGahey, Wallace(s), McCeveley, Coutts, JCR, Higdon to name a few.

Now you see him at Burton signing Brayford (smart investment), McFadzean, Irvine, O'Grady & Dyer who were all excellent tonight for them tonight. Choudhury & Williamson look like smart buys too.

I still think Clough is a ticking time bomb because once the inevitable arrogance sets in, he'll burn bridges and I think it is quite clear that happened with us.

I really don't understand the hate for Clough I really don't. He got us going when we were on our arse gave us our best ever performance at Wembley and got us within a whisker of a final. He then got us in the playoffs, since he has left look what has happened, does anyone actually think we would have finished were we did last year with him in charge? Not a chance, yes he made mistakes I and he would have been warned but to sack him when we did was utter incompetence.

Fair play to him sticking 2 fingers up to everyone I would as well. This club lurch from one ridiculous decision to another and everytime we make one of these stupid decisions we get weaker. The idiots who made all these names for Clough and called him from a pig to a dog I hope you are happy because the alternative has worked so well.

We do seem to be a poisoned chalice, but he remains to be the gaffer who has been backed the most substantially since we've been rotting down here, and he signed woefully. The bloke gave us Alcock and McEveley. He fell out with McNulty when we were crying out for goals. He wouldn't play Collins when we had no centre backs. He signed no centre backs. Michael Higdon...

I heard him at the start of the second half say they were '...looking for a second goal'. What the fuck?! Where was that mentality at our place? What happened to 'You start each game with a point'?

No weight on his shoulders at Burton. They're loving life just being up there. Let's not forget he nearly fucked up their promotion when they were miles ahead of the pack.

Just because he's doing well there doesn't mean we should have kept him here. He failed to get us up and that was his target. With the budget he was given, it's a fucking crime that he didn't. Spunking £1.5mil on Brayford when we were lacking all over the park is the epitome of incompetence - beard or no bloody beard.

Just saying and I may be miles away he's working under a sensible chairman who allows him to sign his first choice target. Our chairman could possibly try the same then the succession of managers may have some success and we could possibly step off the manager merry go round were currently in.

I feel one of the many answers McCabe owes us is, if Clough wasn't sacked on football grounds, as was rumoured, why was he? I think his sacking was a huge mistake and part of the reason why we are now relegation fodder.

Spot on, I don't get the hatred either.

Not his fault we're ran by a set of muppets, and if he did stand up to them in the board room, then well done to him.

Clough was the first manager since Warnock that actually got a good feeling back at the lane. He would have got it right if he was given more time.

People bang on about his signings - yet they got us comfortably in the top 6. If someone offered me that now for this season I'd snap their hand off.

Absolutely agree. Forget about what young Clough is doing now, i for one couldnt care less and dont give a damn what he does with Burton now or in the future. I do care though that he was substantially backed (by Utd's recent standards) and brought in total shite which is only just been cleared out. He has probably learned from his mistakes and the Blades experience has probably made him a better manager, but lets not get all sentimental about what a great job he was doing cos he simply wasnt. He handed out daft over expensive contracts to too many mediocre players or players who had history of being crocks. To have spent all the money he did and be given a season and a half and then watch his team complete with no specialist centre halves get mullered by Swindon (who then got mullered themselves in the final v preston) told me we were a million miles away from promotion. Clough was piss poor in his last season with us (did a good job his first half season he was here though) and only had himself to blame. I for one am glad we have CW irrespective of our poor start as i think he will come good.

I thought both sides were utterly shite
Just shows you don't know much about football then. I thought Burton played very well in patches and credit must go to Cloughie. That Burton team took the game to that multi million pound Derby team in the first half and i was very impressed how organized they were and the energy levels they showed.
For a club with a small budget they are doing a lot better than i first thought.
I've seen a lot worse in the Championship and they certain don't look bankers for the drop which i admit i thought they would be.
Derby were dreadful i give you that.
