He's been the outstanding performer so far for me. Very determined and driven, calm and skillful..if we had another ten of him etc etc...

ffs Matt, you don't help matters at times

What? People weren't. If you find the Davies & Porter thread you'll see I thought he was a good signing and many didn't.

What's the problem? Is it - let's all pick bones out of everything Matt posts week or sumat?

Let's turn this website to the S24SU library shall we. Last time I checked it was a forum.

Sometimes you don't have to gloat so much though ;)

You're absolutely right though and just Two weeks ago this forum was suicidial, you weren't allowed to be positive, now though.... It's still the same

Yep.

And many were disappointed with the signing in July

I was one of those that wasn't happy when we signed him. I thought the money should have been spent on someone younger than 33 and generally a bit better than Davies showed he was last season when he was average at best. Another "steady" one to add to the pile. For a set piece specialist, 9 out of 10 of his corners and free kicks are generally rubbish.

I'm sure you'll forgive me for holding off on hailing him as an excellent signing and getting the humble pie out because, of course, if it is too early to write off Higdon, it is also too early to say how brilliant Davies is.

Latters just likes to prove that some are never satisfied, or slow to discover, what the majority of us have.;)
Davies would put his life on the line for the Gov. Has nerves of steel, regardless of his age, is as fit as anyone, does put quality balls in, will play anywhere required without reservation, hence he is always in the team. What more can we ask?

Continue to play well or not, stay in the team or not the best value we'll get out of Davies is simply being in the club and the influence he will hopefully have on the likes of Dimaio, De Girolamo, Reed, Khan, Berry et al

It's a term bandied about far too much, but he genuinely seems to be a model professional who all those kids could learn so much from. Coaching the techniques only gets you so far, developing the attitude and character required completes a player. Watch and learn, kids!

Thought I'd go for a repeat on this one.
Knowing that we were unlikely to keep certain players from the glorious end to last season (Maguire/Brayford), Davies was always going to be a potential star for us this season. His work rate is better than any other player in the team. There will be games where a few other players star more because of the role NC asks him to do but if you look back at these games you will see BD doing loads of work. The Rotherham game springs to mind from April.

Who's doing the apology thread?

So by that, people ARE allowed to voice a different opinion at our poor performances in the shoutbox as like you said it is a forum after all. Irony.

No irony at all mate. Exactly how the argument started. Certain people didn't appreciate my opinion so resorted to name calling.

What I don't understand is that if you* have been proved wrong, rather than accept it and move on, people just get all stroppy and defensive and start throwing threats and abuse about. Surely if they have strong feelings about the opinion that they have raised, then the response should be to explain further or counter-argue back.

When somebody's comeback is to call me a name as opposed to argue the point, that automatically makes me think their point was incorrect.

*not you in particular.

I am not defending Pommpey's manner, but as I understand your argument it is this "you were proved wrong about Blackman in 2012, therefore you are wrong about Higdon".

Not a great argument.

Well that's fair enough. Everyone has different opinions and part of a forum is to accept others opinions and contribute your own. The thing that annoyed me the other night was general comments regarding people who said our first 80 minutes weren't good enough that we weren't glad we went 3-2 ahead and that we were hoping we'd lose to back up our opinions - which is utter nonsense. It all came across as a bit antagonistic and condescending but it's all finished now so we can move on.

None of which was said by me.

I said when we got the penalty - "watch the shoutbox tone change now" and i may have used the word "fickle", ok there's no maybe about it. Fickle is definitely the word i used.

Oh, this didn't get rolled out again did it?

Jesus wept.

No fickle about it, it doesn't change a jot that we were dogshit for 80 mins, and a better team than Colchester would have seen it out.

There was more to it than that. We were basically discussing how shit Higdon is/isn't. I then raised the point that he had been wrong about Nick Blackman before (in the shoutbox, during a game of which he later scored). I then got bombarded with abuse etc. for having a stupidly long memory.

"Matt's memory is long, what a geek" - now that is a good argument

Ok, if your argument was "August/September is too early to judge a player, as we saw by the fact that people made an early negative judgment on Blackman in 2012 and were wrong", that is a a reasonable argument :)

Another thing i mentioned was that we weren't dogshit for 80mins. We dominated the 2nd half and they scored their 2nd against the run of play (by the sounds of it). We happened to score in the last 10 mins but that isn't to say it hadn't been coming before that.

P.S. I say "by the sounds of it" because like everybody in the shoutbox that night. We weren't there and had to listen to the radio or read foxy's tweets etc.

P.P.S Either foxy was being very biased in the 2nd half or Colchester didn't threaten much as pretty much every tweet was about United attacking.

That is exactly my point. :)

I can assure you that we were dogshit for 80 mins. The three goals were the most bizarre conclusion to a blades game I have ever seen. We never ever looked like scoring up until the second Davies' drilled home.

Foxy's 2nd half tweets...

11 Blades related chances (includes 3 goals)
4 Colchester related chances (includes 1 goal and a clearance off the line)
11 generic tweets (substitute, attendance figures, stoppage time etc.)

That suggests to me that we were the better team in the 2nd half.

Group hug everyone ?

We should probably move on actually, there's a Swindon game coming up that we need to sharpen our knives for ;)
