@robstaton: Very unlikely to be any further ins or outs at Sheffield United before today's deadline. #SUFC

So even after Tuesday's debacle we are going with what we've got till January so the 'consequences' will be the same squad of spineless twats will be the same squad on Saturday.

Adkins failed to address our issues in the summer, failed to address them before the window shut and has failed again in the loan window. These players haven't got it in them and will ultimately cost Adkins his job. He should have been in the phone since Tuesday and brought 3 signings minimum in for Saturday.

Simply not good enough.

Not really his fault.
He'll have targets but unfortunately it's our board that has the final say.

I suspect the only players that would be available would be just as shite as the ones at the club already.

Who is going to be available at short notice for loan with a busy December month of games coming up?

Too little too late from the board and management.

Miles Addison has signed for Peterborough on a shot term deal, would have been nice if we signed him on a similarly short term deal since our centre halves are all wank.

Other than that it was probably too late to bring any one else in though. The run we have now looks very tough though. The only games I can see this group of players getting anything from between now and the new year is Barnsley and Bradford.

Season was a write off after our second terrible pre-season in a row. Maybe we will make it a hat trick next year.

The pre-season manifesto seems to be

1.Sell Best Player
2. Make sure best players is not replaced at all under any circumstances
3.Identify new players in key areas but make sure you don't actually buy them
4. Buy players in positions not really needed
5.Wait till the last day of the transfer window to really try and bring players in that you have wanted all summer
6. Remember, there is always the loan window
7. If possible offer new contracts to players who have let you down the previous season

As I understand it you can also agree deals to sign player in the Janurary Transfer Window, and bring them in on loan until you can make the deal permanent.

Wonder if Mal Brannigan is aware of this particular nuance of the transfer market......

That's ok, I'm sure Jim Phipps will explain it fully on social media.

Oh, silly me, we lost our last game didn't we? In that case there's more chance of seeing a tweet from fucking Shergar.

But look on the bright side, they are looking to the future by building a stadium suitable for staging many other kinds of venues.....:(

You missed a crucial one there, Royzers

6.5 - Do fuck all in the loan window except talk bollocks and infer that you are after player X or player Y but it's difficult to get them to be released by their club

We got Hammond in the end though.

I think Hammond would have been useful to us had we got him when actually wanted him which was back in August.

Never been a fan of signing someone for the sake of it.

If the one's available are no better than the dross we already have then whats the point.

Adkins interview this afternoon said it all. Over 40 players on full pro contracts!

Massive clearout needed in January followed by a few key incomings. Improve the quality and trim the quantity.

I thinks its absolutely key that Adkins stays.

The transfer policy of the club still appears to be singling out one or two key targets (Brayford last year, Sharp in the Summer, Hammond and Byrne this time) and then pursuing them for months until they sign. What we're missing is that while we now have Sharp and, so far disappointingly, Hammond, that our team is still mostly consisting of players who were brought in on the cheap and are nowhere near good enough.

Sharp and Brayford will be two players that most clubs in this division will look at and wish they could afford. The other nine on the pitch won't be good enough.

It'll be OK when they gel together

This is very true, but it's also a consequence of not doing business in the Summer. We sit and repeat that signings don't have to be made early, that there's plenty of time, and then funnily enough end up missing out on all of the players who are now playing above us in the league table.

The damage has already been done, if we sign Hammond on a permanent deal then we may as well chuck the towel in.
