Alan Woodward, “Woody”, passed from this life May 21, 2015 at home. He was born in Chapeltown Sheffield, England on September 7, 1946 to Roy and Hilda (Elvin) Woodward whom preceded him in death. He graduated from Yorkshire Prep and went on to play football (soccer) for Sheffield United where he had a long and successful career, becoming one of the most celebrated players in the club’s 125 year history.

In 1979, he came to Oklahoma where he played for the Tulsa Roughnecks and became famously known as “Boomer” for his powerful, yet accurate touch. He was the place kicker for the 1982 AFA Oklahoma Thunder, where he was the league’s leading scorer. In 1984, he established the competitive youth soccer club, Tulsa Sheffield United FC. Throughout his long career whether playing, coaching, training, and volunteering he made a huge impact on youth soccer in Oklahoma. He worked for American Airlines retiring in 2009 after a 20 year career.

Alan leaves many loving memories with his family; brother, Nigel and wife Hazel from Barnsley, So. Yorkshire England; his children, Carol Woodward and partner Colin Mansell, Shaun Woodward and wife Cindy, all of Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England, Steven Woodward from Jenks, OK; Stepchildren Joseph Woods and wife Yasaman from Orange County, CA, Brian Woods and wife Melissa, from Broken Arrow, OK; Sarah Woods Willhour and husband, Travis, from Pryor, Oklahoma. Alan was a loving granddad to his 8 grandchildren, Lauren, Emily, Olivia, Charlie, Makayla, Taylor, David and Henry. He will be deeply missed many other loving relatives, a host of close friends and his devoted fans.

Visitation will be held 12:00 PM- 8:00 PM Tuesday May 26, 2015 at Schaudt’s Glenpool Funeral Service, 719 East 141st Street, Glenpool, OK 74033.

Memorial Service celebrating Alan’s life will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at Jenks First Baptist Church, 11701 S Elm St, Jenks, OK 74037, with Pastor Rick Frie officiating.

Memorial donations may be made directly to Metro Tulsa Soccer Club, Alan Woodward Scholarship Fund for TOPSoccer, 10715 S Delaware Ave, Tulsa OK 74137.

(TOPSoccer is a soccer program for children with disabilities) If you wish you may also donate to TOPS online at http://www.gofundme.com/alanwoodwardfund.

On a slightly light note, the mind boggles as to what "graduating from Yorkshire Prep" means....
 
everyone used to go on about TC (with justification).. but Woody was always my favourite <sob>
