Adkins' men

So the transfer window is over and for all the talk of a huge squad, Adkins has long since (mid November) decided his squad till the end of the season. only 18 players still at the club have featured since Shrewsbury, and the core side is made up of only 15 players.

I'm happy enough with a spare goalie and a few youngsters around the squad but we do look light in defence and short of a pacey midfield player.

Cuvelier and Scougall are the only players of the guys not in contention who might sneak into the squad so a decent centre half is the first priority IMO.

As for the rest, they can all have a chance elsewhere for me ASAP. Another 6 or 7 off the books

Yes I think all this talk of an over bloated squad is ridiculous. , any excuse not to sign anyone

First thought:

The size of the squad is a problem precisely because they are not good enough to be available - and are blocking places of players who should be in contention for the first team.

It's nothing to do with having too many players to choose from. We have too few.

Long ( for second choice / backup until he improves )
Brayford
Edgar ( if he continues better form )
Basham ( squad player )
Coutts
Adams
Reed ( loan him out to get experience & toughen up )
Done
Sharp
DCL ( loan out to get experience )
Freeman ( squad player )

All the rest can be released, sold, lost, misplaced, returned with gratitude and thanks to their parent Club or otherwise disposed of as far as I'm concerned.

This, of course, leaves us with a long shopping list in the summer, but there will be many players who will be available on frees, loans etc who CAN perform at this level of football, together with a few astute signings with the meagre resources which are likely to be made available to NA in the summer to get us out of this division.

As a bare minimum, we will be needing;

GK LB 2 x CH LW RW CM 2 x CF

Big Jim needs to grow a pair on behalf of the Prince & McCabe and be truly ruthless in the summer and abbreviate his master plan from "3 transfer windows" to " two transfer windows" because even my " half-century" of patience is wearing thin ........

Or some other alternative.
 
All these names should never have been here and we will hopfully have forgotten them by mid next season, with the exception of a few developement players.

Thanks for posting this, I actually feel quite happy that a lot of our wage thieves will be out of contract in the summer. There'll still be one or two knocking around until 2017 but on the face of it we should be able to get rid of a lot of dross in the summer.

Party on London road come 1 July?

Because Collins is one of the worst CH's in this division and he will be no better next year ........ we retained mediocrity and that's where we are ....... an average L1 side :(

That's the only thing that would make me think twice about renewing. I'd sooner a younger squad which might not challenge but will improve, to and older squad going through the motions yet again.

Actually, read differently, going through the motions is a decent metaphor for Adkins team selection process.....
