I think the scoreline in the opening fixture of last season will sit in our minds for some time. A great deal of optimism going into the season with a new gaffer and a steady enough preseason in hand, only to come undone and be humiliated.

The Team:-

Are largely changed to those who hammered us last year due to 12 signings being made over the summer, in Emmanuel-Thomas and Bradley Dack they have two players who know where the back of the net is, the former being on 5 goals already this season (3 of those in the league).

Justin Edinburgh open admitted to being unhappy about his teams defensive frailties this season due to a number or injuries to key players, for this reason urgently wanted to bring in a CB before the close of the window (However as struggled because we have signed them all).......In the 11th hour on deadline day, Gillingham signed 20 year old Baily Cargill from Bournemouth on a season long loan and he is expected to make his debut against us on Sunday. Cargill is an England U20 international and was on loan at Coventry last season.

The Gills start to the season:-

Southend (A) League - W 1-3
Southend (A) Cup - W 1-3
Bury (H) League - W 2-1
Swindon (H) League D 1-1
Scunthorpe (A) League L 5-0
Watford (A) Cup - W 1-2
Shrewsbury (A) League - W 2-3
Luton (H) Cup - L 1-2

League Form - W 3 D 1 L 1 GS 9 GC 10 PTS 10

In form Man - Emmanuel-Thomas (5 Goals)

They started the season well as you can see but have still been very patchy despite a decent start to the season. The most notable results being a hammering at the hands of Scunthorpe on the road as well as a loss in the piss pot cup midweek to Luton in which Gillingham fielded a strong-ish team.

It is also worth noting that Gillingham are yet to keep a clean sheet this season.

Betting:-

Gillingham 6/4 Blades 7/4 Draw 23/10

The odds obviously favour the home team however due to both teams inability to keep a clean sheet it isn't too surprising to see that the bookies are a bit wider with the odds on the draw.

A few tipsters (possibly pissed?) have actually tipped us to build on the Oxford game and to go down their and turn Gillingham over, due to this the betting on an away win has been quite heavy so far at around 2/1.

There also seems to be a couple of tips flying round for a Score Draw.

Leaving aside last seasons debacle isn't our record there pretty dire anyway?

Expecting a tough game..they're usually well organised and physically tough...It's 2 sides not gelled together yet,and they've definately had a problem at the back..I think they've changed from a back 4 to a 3 in the last couple of games from what I can gather.
Not sure if Caigill is match fit yet,so might start,or may not last the full 90...they've recently signed a youngish Keeper on loan from Reading called Bond aswell.
I was hoping they would lose Dack, but managed to hold onto him.
Heart says Blades win,Head says draw...Fuck it..I'm going with my heart..Blades win 2-1.

Agreed The_Green_Man has just found himself a job for the season :)

They've had a decent start to the season. Anyone fancying a good laugh should watch their highlights against Scunthorpe, their keeper makes George Long look like Manuel Neuer!

Not sure if he's their regular, but if he is, lots of shots boys.... lots of shots

My main hope for Sunday is that we keep a clean sheet, which we've not managed yet and which if we are going to anything this season we need to start doing on a regular basis.

That was Stuart Nelson in goal v Scunny...they've brought in another Keeper from Reading called Jonathon Bond since then..Hopefully he's equally as shite..It would be good to see us at least test him with a few Shots at goal for a change.
