Deadbat’s Sheffield United Quiz




As it is coming up to Xmas and everyone loves a Quiz / Games…..I have put together an 80 question Blades quiz. Of course you could cheat by googling, looking through the various SUFC Clareborough/Kirkham tomes etc but it would be good if people had a go at these without trying to find the answers. Some may be quite simple or you can guess but some are a bit harder and have a series of answers required to each question. They will get harder as the week goes along.


Anyway….I will release these one section at a time over the next week or so and will reveal the answers when it is completed. Feel free to answer on the threads of course or alternately keep them to yourself until the answers are revealed.


I have a full word version if anyone wants to e mail me/PM me for purposes of doing at Christmas parties / away trips etc.


Hoping there won’t be too many errors (I await certain posters to reveal some inaccuracies of course – please do not be too critical if one or two are not totally right – done them to the best of my ability)

I am hoping it will all be ok but you never know...just one smart arse may say 'actually.....'

It will be 99% on the money. I am fairly certain. 95% certain in fact.

Radio 5 Live rather than Radio 2 so it must have been relatively recent. Boro away Sept 1989?

We were just 4 points off winning the league that year and Derby who won it did the double over us - had we won just one of those matches we would have been champions - typical United. And then the following season we get fucking relegated !!!!! How did that happen ?

Remember watching John Player Sunday League cricket on telly & seeing EJO Hemsley's name come up on the televised scorecard on at least one occasion, noted because he was my favourite player when I first started going to The Lane, mainly because we share the same christian name ( as a four year old that's important).
I think he was less impressed with me when I met him a few years ago pre match & he was explaining to our table that good as they were, the side of his era never actually won a trophy. I reminded him (not in a bad way) that we nearly won the Watney Cup on his watch....... but for the penalty taking. Fortunately there was only us two who knew what I was on about.
Still have my Umbro replica shirt from Archers with number 3 on the back.
5/10 for the quiz. Is the jury still out on question 7 ? I'd have gone for Woody but seems like it was Hockey ?
